Using the Mac OS and Saving Your Work
All Macs, managed by the Digital Design Studios, in F Block, the Arnolfini and in the satellite rooms (Graphics, Illustration, Drawing and Print and Spike Island) all run Mac OS systems. The Macs in the Magenta room have VMware Fusion installed – this allows you to run Windows through the Mac. The Windows section has a basic selection of PC only software installed, primarily Embroidery Studio (for embroidery design).
When the machines are first switched on you will need to log in. Use the personal log-in and password as you would with any of the PCs.
The machines all have a number of folders, and access to a variety of backup solutions. It is vital to backup your work at the end of every session. When saving onto a computer, work will only be stored for a maximum of 28 days. However, in the case of hardware failure, a machine may need to be wiped at short notice, and all work on that machine will be lost. There are no extenuating circumstances for work lost in this way. An outline of the folder structure, and the nature of each folder follows below.

This is a local 'home' folder that will share it's name with your log-in ID. Files saved here will only be available on that specific machine. Files will only be saved there for a maximum of 28 days, after which they will be wiped. Machines may be wiped or moved without notice so it is vital to back up your work.

This is a network folder which is also named after your log-in. This is the same folder that you access on the Library PCs. It is only 1GB big, so only suitable for Word and similarly small files.

Your MicroSoft Office 365 account includes 5TB of cloud storage through the OneDrive system. The computer desktop includes a shortcut to the web-based OneDrive system. Information of the central IT storage options are on the ITS Help Pages
